Imagine a market under shelter, warmed by gas fires, live music and lively conversation, with mingling aromas of expresso coffee, homemade soup, fresh veggies and essential oils, and sublime views of roos grazing the vines and the distant Mt Terrible and the Southern Mt Lofty Ranges?
Of course, we’re in the remarkable Willunga Basin on the Fleurieu Peninsula. But, LETS South (Local Exchange Trading System), have joined forces with Ekhidna Wines and the result is a cosy market characterised by quality and community.
It’s not a farmer’s market, but more a backyard one, reflecting local homemade soups, cakes and brownies, seedlings, plants and fresh produce. Homebased therapies are well represented, with bars therapy, kinesiology and reflexology. Add to that a large array of therapeutic grade essential oils, homemade spritzes, moisturisers and roll-ons.
Expect to meet a furniture maker and repairer; an author selling a tale of Love in the Third Age; and a tried and true, inexpensive method of selling your home without an agent. Finally, Ekhidna’s large selection of award-winning wines are also available for tasting and trading.
LETS South have been operating in Willunga and the Fleurieu for over 30 years. It’s an old idea for a modern world where you barter your skills, produce or goods, not for money but for barts, which you can then trade for other skills, produce or goods you might want. LETS have an easy to use on-line system that keeps everything recorded.
When you join, you automatically become a member of a national barter system of 20 other areas in every State. Click here to sign up or simply come to the next market on the last Sunday of the each month at 8.30am, Ekhidna Wines, 67 Branson Rd, McLaren Vale.
See you there!
